At Mountains of Hope we envision that one day, all children will have the opportunity to attain good health and an excellent education. To achieve this, we aim to purchase 40 first aid kits for 5 primary schools in one district. Each class will receive one kit as well as a teachers staff room to enable them to give first aid treatment to pupils before referring them to health centers. Currently, pupils are sent back home to seek treatment for simple health issues such as a cold or slight injury.
Currently, the majority of pupils do not have access to first aid treatment at their schools. This is due to a lack of a first aid tool kits in Ugandan schools even though it is a requirement for each class to have one. Rural schools are at most need as 99% of them do not have one. When students in rural schools are injured they are sent home, consequently missing an entire day of schooling because of a simple, treatable injury.
This project will provide schools with first aid kits as well as train teachers to properly administrate treatment when necessary. School nurses will also be equipped with skills on how to handle the kits and make sure each and every child will have access to it if necessary. Mountains of Hope ultimately strives to decrease the amount of schooling a child misses in their lifetime.
The accessibility of a first aid kit will provide children a safe environment to learn in, without any fears of contracting tetanus or other health related risks caused by delays in accessing medical attention. Mountains of Hope wishes to provide every child with good health in order for them to receive an excellent education.
