Equip 20 computers to support school dropouts

Our computer skilling initiative is creating more than digital literacy—it is giving girls and boys a constructive pathway to spend their time, develop confidence, and prepare for a productive future. By providing practical computer training, we are keeping young people meaningfully engaged in learning and reducing the amount of unstructured time that can expose them to risky relationships, peer pressure, and early sexual activity.

For many young people in the communities we serve, access to computers and structured digital education is limited. Our training sessions provide a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn typing, Microsoft Office applications, internet use, digital communication, research skills, and other practical technologies. Instead of spending their free time in environments that may increase their vulnerability to teenage pregnancy and other challenges, girls and boys are encouraged to concentrate on building skills that can contribute to their education and future employment.

The program is particularly valuable for adolescent girls, who can face significant social and economic pressures. By investing in their knowledge and abilities, donors are helping create alternatives that strengthen self-confidence, decision-making, and aspirations.

Our vision is expanding beyond the communities where the initiative began. We are working to reach more girls and boys in additional communities so that digital opportunities are not limited to a small number of young people.

Every computer lesson represents an investment in a young person's future. With continued donor support, we can provide equipment, training materials, instructors, mentorship, and safe learning spaces to more young people—helping them exchange vulnerability for opportunity and uncertainty for hope.

Participants learn how to search for educational information, access online learning materials, prepare documents, communicate with teachers and institutions, and use digital resources responsibly. These skills can help young mothers continue learning even when traditional educational opportunities are limited.

The knowledge gained can also influence how mothers support their children's education. Digitally confident mothers are better positioned to help children with research, encourage responsible technology use, identify learning resources, and communicate with schools and educational service providers.

This creates a powerful intergenerational impact. When a young mother acquires knowledge and confidence, her child can benefit from an improved home learning environment. When she develops an income through digital or employment opportunities, she may also be better able to meet school-related costs and other basic needs.

Our program therefore views computer training as an investment in both mothers and children. We are building capabilities that can contribute to stronger families and greater educational opportunity over time.
