Across underserved communities, many young people have ideas for businesses but lack the technical knowledge and resources needed to develop them. Digital skills can help bridge part of this gap by giving youth practical tools for planning, communication, organization and learning.
Our Youth Computer Skilling Program seeks to equip young people with foundational digital knowledge that can complement entrepreneurship and vocational training. Participants are introduced to computer skills that can support everyday business activities, including preparing documents, organizing information, communicating with customers and searching for useful market and business information.
The program also encourages young people to think creatively about how technology can support their ambitions. Digital literacy can help a young entrepreneur present ideas professionally, maintain simple records, communicate with potential customers and learn about new opportunities.
However, we recognize that technology alone does not create successful entrepreneurs. That is why our broader youth empowerment approach combines digital learning with mentorship, life skills, problem-solving, communication and responsible decision-making.
We want young people to leave the program not only knowing how to use a computer, but also understanding how knowledge and technology can support their personal and economic development.
With donor investment, we can reach more young people who have never had consistent access to computer training. Support can contribute toward computers, maintenance, learning materials, trainers and structured sessions.
The long-term vision is to create a generation of young people who are better prepared to explore employment, entrepreneurship, vocational opportunities and continued learning.
