Our 3 months work for cleaner & sufficient water

Thank you for your support to our work.  We still have a lot to do in all the indigenous communities. Everything is planned and prepared for the next few months in order to accomplish a better access to clean and sufficient water for all.

Physical Wellness

  • Our Health Day took place on July 27 -30. Over 180 children were anthropometric measured and hemoglobin samples were taken, to follow up anemia and malnutrition. Dewormer were delivered to all indigenous families.
  • 300 tubes and 301 ultraviolet lamps of 16 watts each one were purchased, delivered and ready for water purification filters further installation.
  • 110 water tanks and installation materials were purchased and delivered to the indigenous communities for installation of domestic water waste treatment systems.
  • 81 water tanks were purchased. Through September, 51 of them were delivered at 4 indigenous communities. In the next few months we will finish all deliveries and we will be able to start rainwater harvest systems.

 

Social wellness

  • As part of our Long Distance Training Program for life, young indigenous population have been studying the digital lessons (podcasts and infographics) with several themes:

×      Oral hygiene

×        Pesticides

×      Physical activity

×      The importance of jungles and forests

×      The importance of cornfields

×        Gender equity

×        Community organization

×        Discrimination

×        Social networks and its purpose

×        Alcoholism and drug addiction

  • Young people have been teaching the children about certain topics, such as:

×        Hand washing

×        pollinators

×        Childrens´rights

×        bullying

  • Indigenous women have been learning and improving about several topics such as:

 

×        Stationary diseases

×        Hypertension

×        Cancer

×        Deforestation and reforestation

×        Forest fires

×        Conservation of animal species

×        Free violence education

×        Taxes

×        Access to govermental programs

×        Barter and reciprocity

×        Poverty

×        Migration

 

Economic wellness

  • Social economy workshops were given to all indigenous groups, exploring their natural and cultural resources in order to achieve a better development of their entrepreneurships.
  • Ixim made the first prototype of a water purification filter, embedded in a drop-down table. The first project will be produced in San Jeronimo Tulijá community.
