Karamoja in Eastern Uganda is facing a deadly hunger crisis. Crops have dried up and families are starving. Our survey found Napumpum, Nakapelimoru, Lokwakial, Rengen and Longaroi as the most affected subcounties. We will provide emergency maize flour and beans to 2,000 of the most vulnerable families to save lives now
Failed rains have destroyed crops across Karamoja. Families who rely on farming and livestock have no food and no income. Cows are also dying from hunger and are too weak to sell. Children are malnourished and some people have died from hunger. Government support has reached only a few. In our survey, families in the 5 subcounties reported eating once every 2-3 days
We will deliver immediate food relief to 2,000 families in Napumpum, Nakapelimoru, Lokwakial, Rengen and Longaroi. Each package will include maize flour and beans. Working with local leaders, we will prioritize widows, elderly-headed households, and families with malnourished children. Distribution will happen within weeks to prevent more deaths
This relief will save lives and keep families alive through the worst of the crisis. It will give children and elders strength to survive while we connect communities to longer-term support like drought-resistant farming and government programs. Our goal is to ensure no family in Karamoja dies from hunger
