Please become an angel for Tk-6 students in our highest needs schools. Help them rise to meet challenges to learning which may include chronic hunger, sleep deprivation, trauma and worry for their families' safety. With music to fill their hearts, instruments to fill their hands and songs that carry essential lessons in English language learning, math, science and social studies, their troubles will melt lemon drops as they breathe, focus, connect and learn big ideas through the power of song.
Young students from families facing deep economic hardship may come to school each day feeling unprepared, overtired or anxious. Their unmet basic needs and stressful life circumstances can make it hard to concentrate. But these children respond so positively when teacher starts the day with a song and integrates strumming and singing into lessons. Music eases their tension, brings them into the present moment and opens them to learning while developing musical skills to last a lifetime!
This microproject will fund everything that our high needs classrooms require to begin leading music for academic and social-emotional learning. Teachers will receive instruments, supplies and free weekly training after school, and students will receive instruments to play in the classroom. Within 2 weeks of beginning training with GITC, classroom teachers will begin singing with their students, incorporating movement and music making with guitar and ukuleles with academic lessons.
This work instills life-long love of learning & success and music! It imparts a permanent solution because teachers train and keep playing for years at school. All children are reached, including those in Title 1 and public school classrooms- GITC creates precious musical opportunities for everyone. This approach makes classrooms happier places, enables students to bring up their grades and test scores, schools get stronger, and teachers acquire an inspiring new way to do their best!
