Together We Made a Difference

By Daniel Sitarenios | Operations Manager

Dear Supporters,

COVID- 19 was never a word before this year and now it has changed our daily lives and future. As a charity supporting over 65 projects around the world we experienced a huge number of emergency requests as governments failed to respond quickly and community members that live day to day faced job losses and lockdowns which quickly led to a series of problems from hunger, increase in domestic violence, homeless and much more.

Even over a period of unknown when many of us didn’t know where the next paycheck was coming from you continued to support us and what a busy few months we have had spending your donations for the greater good. As this micro-project comes to an end our efforts have not and our Emergency Appeal for COVID-19 project is still live so please do follow this and if you can donate it would be greatly appreciated.

With all the funds raised they have been spread across our projects where the need is greatest and this includes a toll-free support line fully funded by your donations in Zimbabwe for domestic violence. This phone line is still up and running for another 2 months but we would love to continue this if we get enough funding for our COVID project. 10 women have already been removed from violent homes and are working with our legal and rehabilitation team because of you!

We also funded over 200 family emergency food parcels that contained enough food to feed a family of 4 for 2 months over the most critical lockdown period. These families lost their jobs and still need help to find new employment as the economy starts to open, for these people we are actively fundraising to start a job and training centre in a number of locations that need support to retrain and get back to work.

Our homeless shelter had to quickly adapt bringing in safety processes to protect residence and staff and this came at a cost that was supported by a number of local businesses and your donations. The shelter soup kitchen was expanded quickly and the team started to deliver soup to the struggling township communities. As well as the immediate response the shelter also run a rehabilitation program that employs people in the charity shops and these shops had to close but we were able to continue to provide support to these workers that had just completed rehab and help avoided them going backwards thanks to your donations!

Our safe house for women and children of domestic violence had a huge increase in requests for support and with your donations we were able to fund enough PPE for all the team and introduce a restructure of the home to be able to respond to the emergency during the national local downs.

A local woman trained through our Women Empowerment program in South Africa took it upon herself to hustle and prepare a hot meal for 500 people every day and she still continues to do this with help from 4-5 other local women. They are cooking for 500 people on two gas stations in a leaking container. Still with a smile on their face we are actively helping fundraise to fix the container and provide a second cooker. With future donations we will continue to support this local initiative with ingredients, gas and fundraising for a second stove.

Our women that make a living from making bags, t-shirts and other items sold to the local tourism trade experienced the market stop overnight. With your donations we were able to fund material that helped them sew masks and we have donated over 500 masks to the local community to help fight the pandemic.

In response to COVID-19 our team has been busy and as these micro-projects come to a close the work is far from over. We now need to help rebuild all our projects and still respond to projects across Latin America that urgently need oxygen and other live saving materials. Please help by sharing our main emergency project and if you can donate again we welcome any little donation to help us continue our work.

Thank you!

With Gratitude,
