This project will support children across Ukraine who have been traumatised by poverty, abuse, abandonment, conflict and civil war. ChildAid will deliver specialised and general care to alleviate the impact and effects of such trauma. Leaders will be trained in trauma care and families will receive material support. Trust in humanity needs to be rebuilt. Basic physiological and safety needs are needed to support psychological and emotional needs.
Children and young people are the innocent victims of a life they did not ask to lead. They are born into poverty-stricken families; or abused and abandoned by those close to them, their communities or the State; or affected physically and emotionally by a five year old civil war where over 1.5 million people have been displaced and 1000s are living still in a war-zone. Projects in Kamianske, Mukacheve, Makariv and the Donbass region will work with trauma-affected children.
1. Train leaders and volunteers in elementary trauma care 2. Deliver initial aid and support to support children and young people in need in order to build trust and relationships. 3. Provide to children in need trauma care as needed dependent on the level and type of exposure that they have to risk (be it through poverty, abuse, abandonment or conflict)
Childhood trauma changes thebrain structure and its chemical function. Maltreatment will affect the way children behave, regulate emotion and function socially. Children, young people and families will receive care, support and love to help them rebuild their lives. Through practical tools project leaders will connect with children at a deeper level, offer strategies to release them from the trauma of their situations, and better equip them to move into a more effective adulthood.
