Through "Little path to school: toy libraries" 116 Tseltal indigenous children from six communities in Chiapas jungle and woods, will develop basic skills of reading and writing through games and activities guided by youngsters from their own communities.
Rural Tseltal people from Ocosingo and Chilon have high levels of illiteracy and low schooling. The unaffordable school institutions and social priorities such as agriculture and domestic work are the main reason for this. As consequence, children lack the basic school skills such as fine motor and reading comprehension, which has severe consequences in their personal development.
In IXIM we believe in every children right to education. In this effort, we started the project "Little path to school" in which 116 Tseltal children will develop basic reading and writing skills through games and activities guided by youngsters of their own communities.
116 indigenous Tseltal children will develop basic reading and writing skills, which are essential to a better school achievement and the full exercise of their human rights.
