In rural areas of Burkina Faso, women do not have access to proper protection for their menstruation.They do not have cash to pay for disposable pads (which are, if available, of very bad quality). It makes the life of women complicated. They often use rags which are clearly showing under their clothes. This leads to loss of self respect, problems in their work and to health problems linked to bad hygiene. This project aims at providing washable protection kits for to 100 women beekeepers.
Women, especially in the rural areas of Burkina Faso, do not have proper protection for during their menstruation, which is also true for women beekeepers. This project aims at offering 100 women beekeepers a washable protection kit so that they can be at ease while they have their period: no loss of selfesteem by having stains on clothes, no uncomfotable moment if not at home when the menstruation arrives and better protection with the kit not showing as it does with rags.
The washable protection kits are produced by a local association "ABF". The model of the kit comes from the US organisation Days for Girls. The kits are durable (3 years), hygienic, discreet, comfortable and easy to use. A kit cost US$15 with a participation of US$5 for a proper appropriation. They have the possibility to carry the kit with them when going to the market or to town. By using the kit they will be better equipped to do their job of beekeeping and avoid to have hygiene problems.
Equipping 100 women with a protection kit for menstruation will help them to have a better health. It will also give them a better peace of mind. Something else that rural women will not have to worry about. It will help those 100 women to be more effective in taking care of their families and activities.
