When the partial government shutdown happened, many government workers who were furloughed or working without pay were wondering how to make ends meet. Day to day life doesn’t stop because the government is shut down. After missing at least one paycheck, many federal workers are struggling to pay for basics like food and medication, much fewer diapers. That’s why Jake’s Diapers, and its community partners, stepped up to help with two important items: diapers and period products.
“Affording diapers and period products are a costly expense even for families earning paychecks,” explains Jake’s Diapers Executive Director Stephanie Bowers. “So, when there’s no money coming in, it quickly becomes a crisis. That is why we’re stepping up to help, so no caregiver has to choose between food, diapers, and period products.”
Jake’s Diapers, based in Little Chute, Wis., is a nonprofit diaper bank providing basic hygiene necessities (diapers and period products) to babies, children, and adults in poverty and disaster situations. “The shutdown has clearly become a crisis for many,” added Bowers. “It is our mission to help.”
