GlobalGiving CEO Victoria Vrana reflects on an escalating humanitarian crisis and appeals for our shared humanity at this perilous time.
My heart aches as I write this. It aches for mothers who mourn their babies, for irreparable harm being inflicted on civilians, for the unbearable losses that are ahead. No matter where you are in the world as you read this, the pain of the violence in Israel and Palestine has reached you, if not directly, then through the ties that bind us all, human to human. I am sending you love and care as we collectively navigate this horrific and uncertain time.
Since the unprecedented Hamas attack on Oct. 7 and Israel’s subsequent declaration of war, thousands of civilians have been killed, injured, or taken hostage. Millions are facing an agonizing humanitarian crisis in Gaza with a dire need for aid. Your donation to GlobalGiving’s Israel-Palestine Crisis Relief Fund will provide emergency relief and long-term support to people in need.
I am holding tightly to hope that peace will prevail.
It is a perilous moment for humanity, and innocent families and communities in Israel and Palestine need your support.
With your help, our team at GlobalGiving will continue to work alongside more than 30 of our longstanding partners in Israel and Palestine to bring emergency care to civilians, advocate for their safe passage, and meet the urgent needs of survivors.
Your donation to our Israel-Palestine Crisis Relief Fund will ensure courageous local leaders in Israel and Palestine have the vital resources they need to continue to be immutable champions for the rule of international humanitarian law, human rights, and peace.
As a nonprofit that believes in the power of community-led change, GlobalGiving stands in solidarity with our partners in Israel, Palestine, and the region who are committed to the peaceful healing and rebuilding of affected communities. We unequivocally condemn acts of terrorism, hatred, and violence against innocent civilians. We mourn with everyone who has lost loved ones and suffers because of this long-running crisis.
Our nonprofit’s goal is to meet urgent humanitarian needs in the region and advocate for peacemaking to end the toll on civilians. Through our long-term relationships, we receive daily, firsthand accounts of the extent of the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians—unable to go home, facing unthinkable trauma, cut off from food and water.
Our aim, as always, is to get resources safely, quickly, and equitably into the hands of trusted, vetted local leaders who are best positioned to help.
We focus on serving the most vulnerable people, addressing the greatest humanitarian needs, and supporting often underfunded but vital work. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, our Israel-Palestine Crisis Relief Fund has already supported the lifesaving work of nine trusted organizations aiding communities in Israel and Palestine, with more to come. The fund is one of many ways you can support people caught in a growing catastrophe through GlobalGiving. You can also support the work of peace champions in Israel or Palestine through their charitable projects.
These brave humanitarians include the team at Rebuilding Alliance, an organization with 20 years of history serving Palestinians through the unwavering dedication of selfless heroines such as Ms. Najah. The proud grandmother, born a refugee in her native Palestine, just a few years ago shared the names of all 19 of her grandchildren with GlobalGiving. She told us about how she and other women cooked for fellow refugees all throughout COVID-19. Now, she is committed to keep cooking from two kitchens through a war, using wood as fuel when the propane runs out.
These brave humanitarians include self-described bridge-builder Yotam and the team at IsraAID. After delivering aid for 22 years in 62 different countries, IsraAID has now turned its attention home. Its team is working closely with survivors of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, now displaced in evacuation centers. Its trained specialists manage healing family spaces, and create safe, supportive learning environments for trauma-affected children.
At GlobalGiving, time and again, we have marveled at the capacity of human kindness and generosity to lift us up, even in the lowest of times.
This indomitable spirit of togetherness—embodied in Ms. Najah, in Yotam, and in every person who supports them—knows no bounds. It is the spark we need to bind us all in our shared humanity and carry us through to the end of war. Thank you for ensuring our shared humanity is never lost.
With gratitude for your compassion and support,
Victoria Vrana
