90 NEW STUDENTS PROFITED FROM THE PROGRAM THIS FALL

Coding students with certificates
Coding students with certificates

Following the success of the pilot computer coding project held in 4 different CYDD summer schools this summer, the project has now become a regular program of CYDD thanks to your support. A new classroom was equipped with 10 laptop computers and 90 new students (level1) in Istanbul and Izmir profited from the program during the 1st school term. Many students who attended level 1 course in summer were also given level2 courses.

Equal number of girls and boys attended  the courses and even conservative families became very supportive when they realized that computers are not a menace to children's school work but  could be a tool for creativity. On the closing day of each course, individual projects created by each student were presented to the parents and this helped the students to gain self confidence and improve their presentation skills. Course certificates were also given to every participant to further motivate them. The volunteer trainer university scholarship students also benefited from the program as it increased their communicative skills and developed their self confidence.

The classrooms already equipped with computers will continue with separate level1 and level2 coding programs during the 2nd school term and in the summer schools. We are lucky to have so many young CYDD scholarship students studying in computer  sciences and who volunteer to be program trainers.

We are proud to have a fun coding program designed by CYDD alumni, implemented by volunteer CYDD scholarship students and growing to give a new vision to more and more children from low income families. However as we hope to expand to other CYDD branches in various cities, we will need more investment in laptops and in training of new local volunteer program implementers. To accomplish all this we need the continuation of your valuable support..

Thank you...

543 University students profited,we aim 5000

Menti from CYDD Bursa branch - menti training
Menti from CYDD Bursa branch - menti training

Dear supporter,

ÇYDD mentorship project is now in its 5th year and this year we have more than 180 pairs (mentor and menti) joining the program (10% above our projections for 2016-2017). We are now carrying out the project in 7 cities (Istanbul, Kocaeli, Izmir, Ankara, Bursa, Çanakkale and Mugla).

The project’s primary aim was to help the personal development of the university students and to build their self-confidence. However the mentors also have immensely benefited from this program as well as the CYDD branch coordinators and mentor-menti trainers. More and more reputable business people are applying to be mentors.

As all trainers and mentors are volunteers, the project cost is relatively low. However we wish to expand the project gradually to every one of the 108 CYDD branches. This means an increase in travel and accommodation cost for mentor-menti trainers and in organization cost of several year-end and team building meetings and activities. Moreover the project website needs to be restructured for easier survey of the pair relations and evaluations by the project general coordinator.

We do need your support to expand the project so that more students can benefit from this well designed project.

Some comments from our mentii:

"developed my problem solving abilities" "I was inspired","I felt more open to learning and developing myself"

"I had a sense of security"

And from mentors;

"I realized I could help my menti find her own way with her own methods even though I would not actually do it that way- it made me feel more mature", "I became more objective.."

Mentoring university students

Year end meeting of mentors and menti
Year end meeting of mentors and menti

Dear supporter,

ÇYDD believes that giving scholarship to university students is very important and helps them to continue their schooling with less worries. However these students who live and study in cities away from their hometown face many problems. The mentorship project aims to help them to communicate their problems with their mentors, find solutions and thus build their self confidence.

In the past 4 years of the project , 363 pairs (mentor/menti) benefited and 61% of the menti students were girls. This year the project aim is 160 pairs from 7 different cities. As project evolves we have mentor candidates from reputable companies who also become role models for the students.

The project mentors are volunteers and the project budget is small -mainly covering travel and training costs. But we do need your support to keep it going and to have the project expand.
