Child Refugee Crisis

The world is witnessing a rapid escalation in the number of people forced to flee from conflict, wars and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, moving toward countries of transit, such as Greece, Italy, Serbia, Lebanon and Egypt. seeking safety and relief of suffering in countries like Germany and other open, border European nations. Save the Children has allocated funding from our Children's Emergency Fund to respond to this crisis. project reportread updates from the field

Gulf Coast Floods

Torrential storms dumped up to 20 inches of rain over southern Louisiana between August 11 and 13, creating once-in-a-lifetime flash floods that damaged an estimated 40,000 homes. The damage has been estimated at $30 billion, making the floods the nation's worst natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy in 2012. We are meeting the critical needs of flood-affected children and families in evacuation centers in Louisiana.
School Health & Nutrition in Bolivia

Children in Bolivia represent half of the population (10 million people) and face enormous challenges to their welfare and development. Two thirds of them live in poverty. A quarter are malnourished. For these children, survival of their early years is incredibly difficult. With your support, more than 10,000 targeted schoolchildren in pre- and elementary schools in El Alto and Beni will improve their health, hygiene and nutrition practices. project reportread updates from the field
Child Protection in Bolivia

In 2014, Bolivia approved a new law governing children's rights. The law promotes a positive reintegration into society for adolescents and teens in conflict with the law. However the new law has not yet changed the reality of the thousands of teens currently in jail and juvenile centers, the vast majority of whom come from poor, disadvantaged backgrounds and have little, if any, assistance to help them navigate the current legal system. Instead teens are being further excluded and marginalized. project reportread updates from the field

Hurricane Sandy has devastated the East Coast of the United States, forcing thousands from their homes and leaving even more without power for days. Save the Children is creating Child Friendly Spaces in Hurricane evacuation shelters, and is distributing the materials that families need to keep their youngest children healthy. The hurricane's damage and its impact on children and families is likely to be so severe that Save the Children has declared a $1 million goal to help families recover. project reportread updates from the field
