Fundacion Margarita Barrientos provides 3,500 free nutritious meals every day to children, families, and elderly people living in extreme poverty in Buenos Aires and Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Founded nearly 30 years ago by a community mother who experienced hunger firsthand, the Foundation runs two community kitchens that are a lifeline for people who would otherwise go without eating. Your donation helps cover food, cooking supplies, and kitchen operations to keep meals coming every day.
In Los Piletones, southern Buenos Aires, and Anatuya, Santiago del Estero, over 3,500 children, mothers, and elderly people face hunger every day. These are among Argentina's poorest communities, where families cannot afford regular meals. Without the Foundation's two community kitchens, many would go entire days without eating. Rising food costs pushing more families into food insecurity and threatening the nutrition and health of the most vulnerable.
Fundacion Margarita Barrientos operates two community kitchens - one in Buenos Aires and one in rural Anatuya - serving 3,500 free nutritious meals every single day. The kitchens purchase food in bulk, prepare balanced meals with dedicated staff, and serve children, families, and elderly people 365 days a year. An in-house bakery produces bread daily. The project also provides health screenings through its on-site clinic, and early childhood education for 170 children at two daycare centers.
By ensuring daily nutrition, this project directly fights malnutrition and enables children to stay in school and develop properly. Over time, the Foundation's integrated model - meals, healthcare, early education, carpentry, etc - helps families build skills to break the cycle of poverty. Nearly 30 years of sustained operation prove this model works. With stable funding, the Foundation can keep feeding its communities and expand its reach to more families in need.
