We released the social energy of young people!

Invisible Exhibition_3
Invisible Exhibition_3

A lot has happened since the last report! Young people from 5 schools have carried out great social campaigns, which they are very proud of. The organization of these actions gave them the opportunity to experience new skills, including establishing new relationships with adults, communicating with officials or with people met on the street during organized public fundraising events.

When students were to return to school in the second half of May 2021, everyone was afraid of returning after so long isolation at home. Our active classes (with the use of the Invisible Exhibition and cooperation classes) turned out to be an excellent topic for outdoor activities for most students, not only those who regularly participate in our classes. Fun and games allowed to integrate students and rebuild weakened peer relations.

In the last report, we wrote about the river cleaning action in Stradunach, and now we will tell you about the next actions that the young volunteers have carried out.

The youth in Prostki organized the action "Help us to help" - the action was related to helping a friend who had a serious accident during the football match. Young volunteers organized a public fundraising event, during which they handed out homemade cookies and organized a blood donation “Donate blood - share your life”. The youth collected PLN 4,800 ($ 1,200), which was donated to the boy's family and encouraged 33 people to donate blood. The role of the young volunteers was to organize the entire action, promote the activities and create a poster (including contacts with local entities that promoted the action).

The campaign "People with autism are among us" organized by young people in Mrozy Wielkie concerned support for the beneficiaries of the Association of People with Autism "IMPULS". During a public fundraising event in the streets of the town and the surrounding villages, young volunteers handed out cookies and blue balloons (blue is a symbol of autism). The collected funds in the amount of PLN 2,220 ($ 555) were transferred to the representatives of the Association at their headquarters in Ek; by the way, young volunteers got to know the activities of the "IMPULS" Association.

The action "Youngsters, let’s get together" is an idea of young volunteers from Rozynsk Wielki to meet their peers from other schools and the opportunity to talk about topics related to the passions of young people. The meeting was held on the Discord platform, moderated by volunteers, during which young people discussed on several thematic channels. There was also a video promoting the event, made independently by young people.

Within the "School’s Trees Alley" campaign young volunteers conducted eco-lessons younger students in grades 0-5 and planted trees around the school. The entire school community and parents were involved, and they willingly joined in helping children. The role of the young volunteers was to coordinate the planting of trees by students of individual classes, to conduct classes for younger colleagues and to promote the campaign at school. Each class will take care of the tree it has planted; the trees will be named by each class.

Each of these actions was organized with local partners, who were included in the cooperation by young volunteers and publicized in the local environment (through posters, promotion on Facebook and local radio). The actions not only gave the young people the opportunity to develop their competences, but also proved that young people can do great things, despite their young age.

In June 2021, we summed up the implementation of the project in the school year, and the icing on the cake was the gamification process combined with the awarding of prizes. The ceremony took place in the Elk Cultural Center, where youth presented the invited guests and all participants what was happening under the project in the auditorium. Young people talked about their achievements and successes, practicing public speeches. Each of the youth groups received financial awards to collective consumption - it is also an opportunity to practice communication and teamwork skills.

At the end of the school year, we asked the young people what, in their opinion, was the most valuable thing that they had learned during the implementation of the project.

The responses were varied, related to specific new skills as well as values and personal development. In addition to the predominant answers (helping others, cooperation), there were such as: self-confidence, courage, showing real feelings or respecting other people's opinions.

In addition:

- 96% of respondents were satisfied with taking part in the project

- 81% of the students learned a lot about volunteering

- 85% of students acquired new skills

- 88% of students are willing to engage in voluntary activities in the future

- 96% of students would recommend participation in the project to others

In June 2021, we asked teachers how they rated the impact of the project on students. Here are some statements:

“The children learned to be independent. They also learned to talk and cooperate with each other. They learned to be creative and master new technologies. The big plus is that they are no longer afraid of the camera. An important competence they have acquired is also the ability to ask for help. They also saw the sense and the need to help others. It is very important that the children are integrated with each other. There are no longer divisions into the sixth or eighth grade, students form one school community. "

"The kids believed in themselves and their abilities."

“The children learned to be on time. If the action was to be successful, you had to do things in advance. "

“Children and adolescents are very involved, thanks to voluntary work they acquire a lot of competences supporting not only their social development, but also learning. We have found that students are more motivated to learn when they are active in other endeavors as well. When we do something together with the students, they feel a bond with their tutor, they believe that "we cannot let you down". And so, thanks to joint ventures, they also gain courage and self-confidence in the lessons I teach. "

We are very pleased with such a great reception of the program! The best part is that from September onwards, new schools are joining us!

The pandemic will not stop youth from being active

cleaning the river
cleaning the river

During the last four months we have been working with youth remotely. Probably your work was also online as well, so you can imagine, how difficult was to keep young people interested. The IT training that we took part, was very helpful and the methods we have learnt made the online classes more attractive. We also learn new things to face new challenges.

Fortunately, in addition to the classes themselves, we offer young people the opportunity to come up with and implement social campaigns so that they can learn in action. You know what's the hardest part of it? Stopping teachers from doing youth work!

During the planning and implementation of social actions, young people get to know the local environment, establish contacts with adults, e.g. officials, representatives of community centers or radio (to promote their activities) and learn cooperation, communication, empathy and discover their strengths.

Recently, during a collaboration class, a student from one of the schools realized that she is a natural leader and that she has an innate talent for organizing and managing a group. Isn't that great?

Our classes are different from standard lessons and give young people not only fun and joy, but also reflection on their strengths and talents.

We are happy that we can now meet students directly, it gives us a lot of satisfaction and opportunities to build better relationships with young people and observe the development of young people that cannot be seen through the computer screen.

May is the time of planning actions to which young people invite partners to cooperate. On May 20, we took part in the first action prepared by young volunteers from the School Volunteer Club in Straduny! Together with the Volunteer Fire Fighters, we were cleaning the river bank and the recreation area. Probably none of us expected such an amount of rubbish scattered along the river bank! We collected together 14 huge bags of rubbish! Finally, a sign was installed with the slogan "Do not litter our river". After a job well done, it was time to relax and have a bonfire with sausages.

The next actions created by youth from three schools will be focused on fundraising: youth from Swietajno will help local animal shelter, youth from Mrozy Wielkie will raise money to support local association helping people on the autism spectrum, and youngsters from Prostki will raise money to help their colleague who has had a serious accident during the football game and requires long-term rehabilitation (along with raising money they will organize a blood donation). Youth from Rozynsk Wielki plan to organize a meeting for young people on a gaming platform to talk about young people's passions.

In the next report, we will describe in detail the actions that young people carried out. We will also present what the project gave young people and how it changed their attitude to volunteering and what competences were developed by the project participants.

Thanks to your donation, we can support young people from small towns in developing competences of the future. And we’re very grateful!

It was a good start for beginners

English version

After the first online meetings with youth from 5 rural primary schools, over 80 young people got involved in voluntary activities. We worked with each group of volunteers in schools using the method of games. Our activities were aimed at giving young people faith in their own abilities through independent planning and implementation of social campaigns. Young people experienced volunteering in practice, got to know their surroundings better, established cooperation with the local community to help those in need - they engaged 43 local institutions and organizations to cooperate. But most of all, the youth believed in their driving force, learned how to cooperate and sensitivity to the needs of others. By November, they had carried out 10 social campaigns, very diverse and very necessary: they raised money to help animal shelters, organized a blood donation campaign, supported lonely seniors with necessary goods collected in Smile Boxes, they collected blankets, food and necessary utensils for an orphanage or a single mother's home, cleaned a neglected cemetery Protestant. It was the implementation of these actions that gave them a sense of agency, they saw that helping is not a difficult activity, as long as it is carried out in a group. The young people understood that cooperation, not competition, gives better results. Moreover, the young people took courage in speaking publicly about what they were doing - during the preparation of films from the activities of the School Volunteer Clubs, as many as one third of the students appeared in front of the camera! In the film, the young people talked about what the project gave them - it made them sensitive to the needs of others, helped them overcome their fear of public speaking, gave them great satisfaction that they could do something good for others and gave them more courage to act. Films in Polish can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/czk8odM99sw, https://youtu.be/q4Ag7HNfWtk, https://youtu.be/o8Z7uA-FJ2w, https://youtu.be/hUlyoLApVQ8 (soon in English also). These activities also give us a lot of joy that we release such fantastic energy and commitment in young people! This is just the beginning! What's next? We'll see in a few months!

Polish version (przepraszamy za brak polskich znakow):

Po pierwszych spotkaniach online z uczniami 5 szkól wiejskich, do dzialan wolontariackich zaangazowalo sie ponad 80 mlodych osób. Z kazda z grup wolontariuszy w szkolach pracowalismy metoda gier i zabaw. Nasze dzialania mialy na celu danie mlodym wiary we wlasne mozliwosci poprzez samodzielne zaplanowanie i zrealizowanie akcji spolecznych. Mlodziez doswiadczyla wolontariatu w praktyce, poznala blizej swoje otoczenie, nawiazala wspólprace z lokalnym srodowiskiem, aby pomagac potrzebujacym – zaangazowali do wspópracy 43 lokalne instytucje i organizacje! Filmy w jezyku polskim sa do obejrzenia tu: https://youtu.be/czk8odM99sw, https://youtu.be/q4Ag7HNfWtk, https://youtu.be/o8Z7uA-FJ2w, https://youtu.be/hUlyoLApVQ8. Te dzialania daja nam samym takze duzo radosci, ze wyzwalamy w mlodziezy tak fantastyczna energie i zaangazowanie! To dopiero poczatek! Co bedzie dalej? Zobaczymy za kilka miesiecy!
