Our programs and activities are designed to be a catalyst that helps conservation charities reach their goals and full potential. By working together we can make a difference! Recognising the enormity of the challenges our wildlife faces, Scales Conservation Fund is dedicated to making a lasting impact through our campaigns and programs. While our efforts are driven by our organisation's singular focus, we spread a wide net by investing in a variety of progressive projects. Protection - Effective anti-poaching initiatives are essential in protecting all wildlife and the natural habitats they rely on to survive. Ensuring future generations can enjoy our natural world and the incredible species that live within it. The team that gets between the animals and the poachers. Poaching is increasing in all shapes and forms and there is no better prevention than presence. The Rhino Task Team provide preventative measures by conducting foot and vehicle patrols, road blocks, vehicle searches and conducting observations in hot spot areas. Education - Education and Protection go hand in hand. Without one the other can not succeed. It is imperative that communities living in natural areas are taught the importance of conserving their natural heritage, in order to benefit from it in years to come. Education is the key to understanding why wildlife conservation matters to both animals and people, and why conserving natural resources is beneficial to wildlife and humans, long term. Rehabilitation - Wildlife rehabilitation is to provide professional care to sick, injured or orphaned wild animals, so they can be returned to their natural habitat. This is especially crucial for the survival of endangered species. The Pangolin Rescue Fund is a Scales initiative aimed at creating awareness about the rapidly escalating and urgent need to save pangolins from the illegal wildlife trade. Working with the experts, we provide funding to cover the extensive treatment and rehabilitation an individual pangolin must go through after being rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, so that they may be successfully released back in to the wild. ReWild is one of the very few rehabilitation centres in South Africa that specialises in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of bats. Whilst the team helps all wildlife in need, the centre has special facilities that caters for the unique requirements of bat rehabilitation. Founded by Jane Burd, who is widely regarded as one of South Africa's top bat rehabilitators, ReWild is the go-to centre for all things batty.
