The year 2020 threw a huge curve ball into our swimming curriculum. We had to close from March 2020 until October 2020 and we reopened on October 13, 2020. After evaluating our situation we decided to postpone swimming lessons for Philippi Childrens' Centre until the New Year.
We went through a COVID19 accreditation process with Swim South Africa in the last term to operate during the pandemic.
Private lessons were started at the facility in the last term of 2020 in order to recover from the impact of being closed for seven months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many children and adults from previously disadvantaged communities were taught at discounted rates for the last three months of the year.
Swimming lessons will commence for Philippi Children Centres' Grade Rs in February 2021 and Pre- Grade Rs in March 2021. We are phasing in to eliminate any unforeseen scenarios.
These are unprecedented times that we are livening in, yet we are excited to teach Philippi Children Centres' learners, as learning to swim may save their lives.

Back to School for our Future Montessori Teachers
By Amy Ostroff - President, Love to Langa
With health and safety precautions being observed, our future Montessori teachers are very happy to back at the Montessori college attending in-person classes! It was especially challenging to keep up with their schoolwork using their mobile phones. We are so fortunate that only one teacher trainee as of yet has contracted Covid-19 and thankfully, she is now fully recovered.
The teacher trainees recently met with members of the St. Cyprian's Church steering committee. Our school will be built on land owned by the church, so they are very involved in the process leading up to construction. Everyone was excited to receive a 3D model of the Love to Langa Montessori School and they discussed strategies for success with their upcoming exams.

Cape Town Update
By Kissmea Adams - Board Member, Love to Langa
In a time of hardship, crumbling businesses, hunger and racism, we are amazed at the generosity of people everywhere. Love to Langa would like to thank all for the kindness bestowed on others.
Building in the townships of South Africa is an amazing experience. Community involvement is tantamount to the success of the school. Everyone gets involved from donors to volunteers and most of all, the community.
In the midst of Covid-19, the school’s building plans are with council waiting for approval and Love to Langa is overseeing the training of teachers. The teachers have been working online with the college and will be resuming classes on July 4, 2020 under strict conditions.
Even during this time of uncertainty the residents are excited at the prospect of the first Montessori school in Langa.
