Remember, Corona Hits All!

"Remember, COVID-19 Hits All" Campaign
"Remember, COVID-19 Hits All" Campaign

Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

As you all already know, the world is facing the threat of the coronavirus and we all need to work together to fight that pandemic and flatten the curve. That can be done by raising people’s awareness on how they can protect themselves and others by sharing some tips and techniques that can effectively lower the infection rate.

As a foundation that serves wheelchair users, we shared on all of our platforms tips on how people can protect themselves and keep their wheelchairs – which they are in constant contact with – clean.

Furthermore, in cooperation with various NGOs, we are working on a campaign called “Remember, COVID-19 Hits All!”. Under that hashtag, NGOs are providing content that helps differently-abled people protect themselves against the Covid-19 pandemic. Since every person face different challenges and has different needs, we collaborated to provide infographics – in Arabic – that instructs people how to protect themselves.

We shared the content we already made for wheelchair users and we made an extra post for people who use different assistive devices like canes or crutches. That post offered tips on how to keep their assistive devices clean to prevent picking up infections through them.

These tips were based on a survey we made for our employees (wheelchair users) and our beneficiaries. These posts caught the attention of the public in general and challenged people in particular since there wasn’t such content available in Arabic.

Stay home. Stay safe. Save lives.

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.

Revive Wheelchair Basketball Sport in Egypt!

Alhassan Playing with his University Team
Alhassan Playing with his University Team

Dear Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers and supporters,

We have some very exciting news we want to share! We’re launching Alhassan Academy for Wheelchair Basketball. Our objective is to revive this competitive and amusing sport in Egypt.

According to our research, here are some facts:

  • There are only 6 wheelchair basketball teams in Egypt.
  • The average age of players is 35+.
  • NO male teams below 23.
  • NO female teams at all.

In order to achieve our objective, we prepared a two-year action plan to promote this sport and we took steps in it. We shared infographics on all our social media platforms to raise awareness about this sport and to attract players, with different levels of physical injuries, to join Alhassan Academy. We already started recruiting players – men, women & kids – who are interested in being a part of this team sport. We want to have the FIRST female team and the FIRST youth team for wheelchair basketball in Egypt. We believe we can revive this sport and concerned parties believe so as well given our success record and medals.

There will be some challenges but we are going to face them head-on in order to achieve our objective and we need your support, dear donor, in order to make it happen.

As for our other activities in this project, we’ve suspended all training sessions and arts workshops due to the recent COVID-19 crises and we’ll resume full-power after the crises is over. Our young athletes can’t wait to get back on track and play the sports they love, they share with us some videos of their workouts at home to stay healthy and encourage others to do the same. Click here to watch Hassan doing his daily workout from home.

Stay home Stay safe. Save lives.

We would like to thank every one of you for your support. We urge you to continue supporting our cause and staying loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help wheelchair users in Egypt be more confident and accomplished. Please visit our Facebook page to read other success stories:

Mental Health Leads to Great Success

Shaimaa - An Accomplished and Powerful Lady
Shaimaa - An Accomplished and Powerful Lady

Dear Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers and supporters,

Thanks to your generous donations we were able to offer needed physical, psychological and social empowering services to our beneficiaries. Starting from providing tutorials on how to become physically independent to peer counseling sessions that foster healthy attitude towards one’s challenge and finally to helping couples achieve their dreams of having a baby! Click here to know more about Bliss.

In this report we will mention one of our most inspiring success stories that peer counseling played a major role at. Shaimaa was one of Alhassan’s beneficiaries. She has birth defects that led to her being a permanent wheelchair user. She is well-educated but due to the society’s unacceptance of her difference, she spent years at home. When she became a beneficiary of Alhassan, we got to know her and the spark in her eyes was evident; she wanted to do something, she wanted to change her life. She applied to work at Alhassan and was employed as a customer service representative. After few months of excelling at her job and learning new things every day, she was promoted to work as information coordinator and now she is the coordinator of one of our strategic projects, Source of Income.

At the start of 2020, we held a staff meeting to showcase our achievements throughout 2019 and discuss our plan and vision for 2020. We also give Employee of the Year during that meeting. Shaimaa was deservingly chosen as employee of the year during that meeting.

That is the kind of effect peer counseling sessions has on people, it opens their eyes on their many different capabilities and motivates them to reach beyond their expectation.

On another note, we are holding campaigns on all of our social media platforms urging people to stay home and follow all the procedures advised and offering tips on how to protect themselves and keep their wheelchairs clean to avoid possible infections. Kindly support us so we can share more useful content for Arabic-speaking wheelchair users.

We would like to thank every one of you for your support. We urge you to continue supporting our cause and staying loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help wheelchair users in Egypt be more confident and accomplished. Please visit our Facebook page to read other success stories:
