Washington, D.C., August 3, 2018 - GlobalGiving is proud to now accept donations in Kenyan Shillings (KES) through a groundbreaking partnership with M-Changa, a popular mobile and online fundraising platform based in Nairobi, Kenya.
“This is an important milestone for GlobalGiving because it will open up new fundraising possibilities for our nonprofit partners in Kenya,” said GlobalGiving Co-Founder and President Mari Kuraishi. “When our partners can connect with donors from their own communities, as well as with donors around the world, their sustainability and impact increases.”
GlobalGiving has served as a capacity-strengthening partner to nearly 500 nonprofits in Kenya with urgent missions to alleviate hunger, foster human rights, protect the environment, advance the equality of women and girls, and more. Since 2002, more than $4.6 million has been raised on GlobalGiving for Kenyan-based projects. Donors in Kenya have given more than $50,000 to date through GlobalGiving, a figure which is now poised to grow.
“M-Changa sees a huge opportunity for Kenyan civil society through local giving. Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, thousands of CSOs will have access to world class tools for sustainable and effective resource mobilization,” said Matt Roberts-Davies, General Manager at M-Changa.
Through the M-Changa partnership, GlobalGiving donors who would like to make a donation in Kenyan Shillings now have several mobile giving options to select from via M-Pesa, Airtel, and more.
The KES option adds to a growing suite of giving methods and currency choices available on GlobalGiving. GlobalGiving donors can make donations in USD, GBP, and INR, or via PayPal and Apple Pay. The INR giving option is available to the GlobalGiving community through a partnership with Impact Guru, which was launched in 2017.
