Due to climate change, river erosion, floods and loss of rural livelihoods, Rapid migration from rural areas to overpopulated cities like Dhaka has increased unemployment and poverty, particularly among women. Through SHOKKHOM NARI program, OBHIZATRIK will utilize Zakat funds to support 1,000 migrant women with income generating assets, skills training and continuous monitoring. The project will enable women to earn sustainably, support their families and live with dignity and self reliance.
Due to lack of farming land and rural employment, many families migrate to cities seeking work. Limited job opportunities in urban areas have increased unemployment and poverty. Migrant women are most affected often lacking education, skills and income opportunities. Widows and abandoned women face severe economic hardship and struggle to meet basic needs with dignity.
The project will use Zakat funds to provide migrant women with income generating assets, vocational training and regular monitoring through the SHOKKHOM NARI initiative. Support will include tailoring tools, small trade, food businesses and urban micro enterprises. This approach builds skills, ensures income and promotes long term self reliance.
By converting Zakat into productive assets, the project will reduce urban poverty and dependency. Empowered women will contribute to household income, improve family well being and gain social confidence. The initiative strengthens gender equity, economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods within migrant communities in Bangladesh.
