We Connect the Dots Annual Hack-A-Thon

The 2025 Hackathon offers underserved youth aged 13-18 a transformative journey to bring their ideas to life as real-world solutions that make a difference. This free program immerses students in coding, entrepreneurship, and teamwork, guiding them as they develop projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Led by dedicated instructors, participants gain hands-on experience in creating impactful solutions to pressing social challenges, with donations directly supporting their growth.

As part of the goals of the Hackathon, students will learn to utilize Office 365 and the Microsoft Teams platform for collaboration and mutual learning. The program connects students through a virtual instructor-led format. The 11th annual Hack-A-Thon, taking place this December, adopts ahybrid structure. It allows community partners and schooldistricts to host students in person while providing a virtual attendance option.

The online coding training is scheduled for evenings and weekends from November 3rd to November 21st, with project build time allocated from December 6th to 14th. Students will be grouped into four teams, each with a dedicated mentor. The training begins with the Level I curriculum, guiding students through coding with HTML and CSS. Progressing to Level II introduces JavaScript, and the advanced Level III curriculum delves into sophisticated web development using React. Additionally, this year's curriculum allows students to learn Python as part of their Hackathon experience.

2024 Annual Hack-A-Thon

The 10th Annual Hack-A-Thon, held from December 6th to 8th, 2024, was a transformative experience that brought together students from over 50 schools worldwide. In collaboration with Nebula Academy, the program provided free training in coding, entrepreneurship, and AI-driven problem-solving, with all projects aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, 91% of participants were from the U.S., while 9% joined internationally, creating a dynamic and diverse environment. The program welcomed students of all backgrounds, with 63% male and 37% female participation, fostering inclusivity in STEAM education.

Leading up to the Hack-A-Thon weekend, participants engaged in structured training sessions from November 4th to 23rd, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React, helping them build strong technical foundations before applying their skills in a collaborative team-based challenge. With the integration of AI-driven learning modules, students explored innovative solutions that connected technology with sustainable business practices. During the competition, teams of four, each guided by an industry mentor, worked together to develop socially responsible business concepts and create websites that addressed global challenges.

Beyond coding, the event emphasized teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, allowing students to collaborate across different backgrounds and time zones. The Hack-A-Thon concluded with an inspiring showcase where participants pitched their projects to a panel of judges, demonstrating creativity, technical expertise, and entrepreneurial thinking. This year’s program reaffirmed the power of technology in shaping a better future, equipping students with the critical skills and experience needed to thrive in the modern workforce. As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to expanding our reach, increasing diversity, and empowering the next generation of changemakers through innovation and collaboration.
