Through this project, ABKT aims to create a critical mass of 30 young leaders in District Dir Lower, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan, where youth have a great potential to become leaders & work for the empowerment of the local community. Giving them a platform to understand & engage in democratic processes, this project will train and support the 30 youth in organizing a campaign around a political issue that affects their community, bringing them together in an important space of civic engagement.
The Pakistani population is young & growing rapidly. Because of the violence and corruption associated with politics, parents hesitate to involve the youth especially girls in politics. Additionally, as the youth are continuously exposed to hate speech and radicalization, they often succumb to harmful narratives of social development initiatives. There is an increasing need to get the youth involved in democratic processes in their communities.
Through this project, ABKT will provide leadership, systems thinking & authentic voice training to 30 selected youth political leaders in order to prepare them to get involved with issues in their communities. They will be supported by 5 political activist mentors who will help them to develop their own advocacy campaigns & gain community support. The young women will be brought together on a bi-annual basis to discuss district-level issues in parliamentary style.
This project will empower 30 young political leaders, through training, support & a platform to voice their opinions. These politically active young leaders will not only grow up caring about civic engagement but will also be encouraged & inspired to spread their knowledge to the rest of their communities to encourage youth leadership. This project will increase community awareness of important political, economic & social issues that greatly impact the lives of those living.
