Hepatitis B and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) viral infections are serious global public health problems. Uganda is one of the most severely affected countries with HBV and HIV. Estimated number of people living with HIV is 1 300 000, most of them above the age of 15 years. The death rate due to AIDS is estimated at 23 000. There are regional variations in the prevalence of HIV infection with higher prevalence in central, west Nile and western part of Uganda. The prevalence of HIV among youth in Uganda is 6.5%.
Cross-sectional discussion study on awareness was conducted at Kirinya Bukasa Village in April 2018. The discussion study targeted 50 local Youths who were involved in awareness program at the time of the Celebration of International Good Deeds Day. These local Youths were trained by the team from Youth Action Movement an arm of Reproductive Health Uganda on how to live a healthy life in their daily lives.
This discussion study showed that the youths had poor knowledge and awareness of viral diseases. As Youth act as a source of knowledge with their families, more efforts will be needed to develop knowledge and awareness among Youths, especially for non- biological sciences Youths to decrease the burden of these diseases. Therefore we thank our donors who have supported us to make this happen, However this project still need support to make awareness continuously. For God and My Country
