It has been amazing. And after one year the project finished and now its time to rethink, renew and redevelop strategies and methodologies with the learnings made. The participants of the first Skateboard program for development in Rosario have been part of an incredible experiency and gained life skills that helps them to face day to day challenges. They learned how to manage frustration, how important is collaboration as a way of individual improvement and of course to get up after falling.

Thanks to your support we've made this possible, and now it's time to come back with a even better program in 2016!

All the best and see you soon!

Many classes have gone by since we started this program, and of course kids abilities both on the board and in their lives have increased greatly.

Last month we visited a local skate-park where they faced their own fears and dared to go down a ramp and practice some of the skills they’ve mastered on the local park on a real skaters paradise, it was great to mix with other skaters that share their same passion for boards and interact on and off the board.

During the last classes we’ve made a new innovation on the workshop by mixing basketball and skateboarding, a brand new sport, where from the boards they pass the ball into the hoops, a new challenge that is on the way of becoming a hit sport during this summer!

On an organizational level, this November 10 we will be hosting our first festival, the “Happy Cities Festival” that intends to inspire the community into thinking the type of city that we live in and how we can work to improve it. We will also be showing our work there, so if you, or anyone you know happens to be in Rosario during that date, please stop by!

If you have any questions, remarks or ideas please contact me luz.amuchastegui@eldesafio.org and if you haven´t done it yet, join our facebook fanpage where we share day to day information.

As always, thanks for supporting this project!

Some time has gone by since we started with this skateboarding program, and as expected kids have become better every day, not only on their skills on the boards, but on how they face fears and how they keep on getting up every time they fall and keep trying till they get it right.

The group has become a tribe and has gotten attention from the neighborhood, during the times the skate program is running on the local field, many other curious kids stop there and admire these kids, and they even sometimes try a few rides on the boards.

Skateboarding is not only an opportunity for us to work on life skills such as frustration management and overcoming tough situations but it is the way to work that out on an innovative way. It is an individual sport, but it is also an excellent way to generate collaboration, team  work and empathy. All of this while having a blast out in the park while sliding over a board feeling the wind in their faces.

Thank you for your support to this program, and please contact us for more information on this or other projects from our organization at info@eldesafio.org

Our first Skateboard training day was full of excitement. Eleven children (4 girls, 7 boys) got together right on time at our place and chose one of the brand new skateboard for the day. They met our new trainer, Bautista, a pro skater with years of experience. And of course they already knew  Andy, one of our young leaders of 20 years old that's also a football trainer and success story of El Desafio.

After a brief introduction, the group headed to the nearby district park, where they practice their first moves in a hard court. The fear of falling and getting hurt dissapeared quite quickly, and we could only see smiles and concentration in the faces of the children. Two months after the first lesson, they are ready to use small ramps and jumping devices.

Besides the techniques obviously needed to master the skateboard, children are developing skills to face fears, cooperate with each other, build confidence and selfesteem.

Thanks for your support on this brand new project!
