Our first Skateboard training day was full of excitement. Eleven children (4 girls, 7 boys) got together right on time at our place and chose one of the brand new skateboard for the day. They met our new trainer, Bautista, a pro skater with years of experience. And of course they already knew Andy, one of our young leaders of 20 years old that's also a football trainer and success story of El Desafio.
After a brief introduction, the group headed to the nearby district park, where they practice their first moves in a hard court. The fear of falling and getting hurt dissapeared quite quickly, and we could only see smiles and concentration in the faces of the children. Two months after the first lesson, they are ready to use small ramps and jumping devices.
Besides the techniques obviously needed to master the skateboard, children are developing skills to face fears, cooperate with each other, build confidence and selfesteem.
