Warm Heart provides a home to 45 disadvantaged hill tribe children, providing them with a safe, loving home, healthy meals, and the opportunity to go to school. Without our help these children would have no future. Our Young Smart Farmer project is teaching these kids how to grow organic gardens, which provides them with a valuable skill and helps feed all of the children at Warm Heart.
The original problem we faced was having adequate refrigeration space for the harvest from their organic gardens. Thanks to the many generous people who supported our project, our kitchen remodel has been fully funded. To further support the young smart farmers, we are continuing the project to help expand their gardens and reach a higher potential of harvest. To accomplish this we will need more seeds and seedlings, organic biochar fertilizer, and a few more garden tools.
Additional funding will help purchase the needed materials to continue to expand the organic gardens that the children have planted. We have the space for more gardens, just need the supplies to plant more and tools to manage the gardens.
Besides providing healthy organic produce to help feed our hungry mob, Young Smart Farmers is helping raise self esteem and confidence in the children. They are very proud to be contributing food to our kitchen, and excited about sitting down and enjoying their bounty together. They are learning a skill that can help feed themselves and their families far into the future, as well as marketable skills as experienced, organic farmers.
