We are looking to raise funds to purchase computers for the "Still I Rise" School in Samos, Greece where our colleague Nicolo Govoni has started a school to teach the refugee children in the camps. We visited in early 2018 and installed donated computers from Morgan Stanley and look forward to expanding the program to not only connect the children in Europe with the children in Japan but to teach Digital Citizen skills for the 21st century online.
The children leaving their homes are seeking refuge in countries such as Greece where the camps quickly become overcrowded, in the day to day lives of the children, it is necessary for them to have the structure of getting up every day and attending class to learn and be part of a bigger group.
The purchasing of computers and wifi will allow the children to have access in their new school to the NightZooKeeper account set up for them to be able to practice creative writing and connect with children online throughout the globe including the children we work within Japan.
Children born in the 21st century will live until the 22nd century, all the more reason for them to be online learning the skill sets including coding and language in order to keep up with their peers. Communication, collaboration and looking at the world more holistically is the formula for their futures when most technologies for their futures as well as the jobs they will eventually apply for have not been invented yet.
