YiLight (www.yilight.com.cn) is a free online encyclopedia for China's public interest sector. With the help of volunteers from professional organizations, YiLight is building a knowledge base to make philanthropic work accessible to the Chinese public. Currently, YiLight is maintaining and expanding an encyclopedia with more than 150 topics/terms and more than a thousand laws and regulations - all closely related to philanthropic work in China.
In China, public interest sector professionals face daily challenges, like "What are the legal rules for fundraising?" or "Can nonprofits charge for services?". Sadly, clear, reliable information is often limited and fragmented here. Unlike other regions where nonprofit professionals access centralized, up-to-date guidance, resources in China are scattered, outdated, and hard to understand. This lack of accessible knowledge hampers grassroots organizations from serving the people effectively.
YiLight provides a centralized, curated encyclopedia of the most-discussed topics and terms in the Chinese public interest sector. With more than 150 entries and growing, the encyclopedia now covers a wide variety of topics from nonprofit legal compliance, to fundraising, to issue areas including sustainability, child protection, and education. In addition, YiLight also features a wide collection of laws and regulations, and personal stories and best practices shared by veteran practitioners.
YiLight has welcomed over 28,400 users this past year, reaching across China's public interest sector from grassroots volunteers to top managers. Our survey indicates most users found YiLight invaluable for problem-solving, with many praising its encyclopedia as "highly professional and accurate." As YiLight expands, we remain dedicated to aiding public interest professionals in overcoming challenges, enhancing skills, and maximizing societal impact.
