Since our last update we have completed at least four more photo albums for orphaned and vulnerable children. The attached picture includes our latest four albums, all for children who recently aged-out of the orphanage system. We had our own pictures that we've taken since we've known these kids and the orphanage provided us with some pictures. In all honesty, it was appalling how few pictures the orphanage provided. Most of them were from the last year or two when in most cases these kids have been institutionalized for many years already. It underscores the importance of our ministry to see these kids regularly, to know them, and to take pictures when appropriate. If we don't, then they won't have any pictorial history.
Like everyone else in the world, we were severely impacted by COVID restrictions throughout much of 2020. We know of many potential adoptive families whose adoptions were delayed or postponed. However, we are aware of at least five of the children with whom we work who were adopted this past year and we were so pleased to provide their new parents with beautiful photobooks. Of the children pictured on the photobooks on the accompanying picture, two were adopted domestically here in Ukraine, two have new homes and families in Italy, and one is in the United States. We pray for their families as they adjust and deal with the trauma their child undoubtedly received from years of institutionalization.
In addition to serving those families, the directors of the two orphanages from which these children came were pleased with our gifts to the families.
Thank you for funding this project. It would not be possible without you. It's hard to imagine in this social media age that we live in that parents don't have hundreds or thousands of pictures of their children. Without these photobooks, these adoptive families would only have a handful of terrible, clinical photos of their forever children.
There's not much to report. Due to COVID protocols and travel restrictions, our visitation in orphanages has been severely limited negatively impacting our ability to maintain our schedule of obtaining photographs and being aware of pending adoptions and foster-care placements. Most of the original fundraising from this project have been deposited in an interest-bearing account in accordance with Shade for Children's Bylaws until such time as they are needed. Some additional monthly funds have continued to come in for this project and with the Donor's permission will eventually be discontinued from this project and redirected to a project to collect General Funding for Shade for Children.
Thank you for your interest and pray with us for the opportunity to resume this project in 2021.
Due to continued quarantines at State-operated orphanages, Shade for Children has made no progress since mid-Spring (just after the quarantine started) in providing yearbooks for adoptive families. The money is in reserve and we hope to get back to business as soon as possible.
In other news, we are fully funded. There are one or two monthly donors who will be contacted soon about transferring their monthly donation to a "general fund" project that we also have on GlobalGiving.
We'll certainly let you know and invite you to celebrate with us once we are able to start seeing kids again.
We took a professional photographer with us during a visit to a Christmas program in an orphanage that we frequently visit. He captured some fantastic photos. In recent weeks, like most other places in the world, we've experienced some of the effects of Covid 19 and the ensuing panic. All orphanages have been closed and quarantined until early next month. We expect the quarantine to be extended, therefore our access to "our" children is limited right now.
However, we are using this downtime to compile existing photos, especially for one child that we know is in the process of being adopted locally. We will get her photo-album to the printer and completed before the end of the month and she and her new parents and family will be the first recipients of YOUR generosity. Thank you for giving, and if you're a praying person, we invite you to join us in prayer for the children and families affected, for a decrease in transmission, a quick vaccine solution, and that people will be drawn to God and reject the fear.
