Tailoring Program was rolled out in the month of May 2019 as part of “Girls Empowerment program” to benefit the girls and young women of Kannagi Nagar Slum Rehabilitation Colony.
Sewing is an important Life Skill one could acquire and use it as a vehicle to learn and become self-confident and self-dependent.
More than 150 girls/young women from the community were counseled to join the course and 60 girls/young women joined the course to learn to stitch. Of 60 enrolled, only 15 knew simple techniques of stitching while others started to learn from the beginning. Tailoring classes were held for 6 days a week. All the girls were trained to stitch handkerchiefs & pillow covers, to begin with, and then proceeded to learn Salwar top, Gathering Pants, Bags, Designs of necklines, etc.
Alongside the tailoring classes, grooming and motivational sessions were also conducted for all the girls. 10 of the girls were motivated and grabbed the opportunity to learn FREE basic Computer course offered by HOPE foundation Computer Learning Centre in Kannaginagar.
Thanks to all those who have donated generously for imparting sewing classes and value-based lessons for the girls/young women of Kannagi Nagar Sum Rehabilitation Colony bringing hope and changing lives since 2001.
