An increasing number of child molestation were reported and trialed on court in China since 2012, most of the victims were rural children and migrant children from rural places. Xixi Garden is focused on solving this problem in the terms of providing 12-semester-long (6 years) systematic sexuality education for migrant rural children, aiming to empower them with necessary knowledge on that subject.
There were 2017 child molestation-case trialed in the year of 2012, 2300 in 2013, and 2828 in2014; the number of molestatiaon cases reported by media in 2014 is 4.6 times as much as the number in 2013. It is highly possible that these numbers underestimated the real situation, because Chinese family prefers to hide this kind of cases from the public. According to a survey, most of the victims of molestation are rural children between 7 and 14 years.
Using textbooks conducted by the Sexual Health Group from Beijing Normal University, we provide 12-semester-long sexuality education for migrant children from rural areas. It takes 6 class-hours each semester to accomplish this instructive activity, from somatic evolution and sexuality health, to attitudes towards sexual relationships and sexual activities, further to culture,social rules and rights, we provide systematic education on the subject of sexuality, aiming to empower the children
This project will benefit at least 300 children in one migrant-children-school. After settling agreements with the school and training teachers, sexuality education will be taken into the curriculum schedule as required course, which will benefit students with stable instructive activities. We would also host regular p&t meetings, host forums in the community to familiar parents with courses,hopefully it would provide a benign environment for the instructive activities, thus benefit the children
