In Pokhara, our project focuses upon improving gender equality through health, education and opportunities. In a country relying on tourism, the impact of the global pandemic means that issues related to poverty such as human trafficking, access to healthcare, education and employment opportunities are increased. Women are particularly affected. Our project collaborates with local community members and organisations to help them achieve their long term objectives.
Gender-based inequalities and access to human rights such as access to clean water, quality education, preventative healthcare, human trafficking, and sustainable economic development are issues highlighted by the collaborative partners and communities engaged in this project. Women and girls are often denied any learning or education and are left behind when it comes to income and opportunities which may result in profound personal consequences, which drives in-equality.
The collaborative project focuses upon making an immediate difference through day-to-day project initiatives including children and adult education and training, with a particular focus on women. The project also facilitates capacity building through teacher training and community workshops, whilst working to change attitudes, regulations, and policy through the support of local networks, local and international outreach, and awareness initiatives.
The project will ensure inclusive quality education and improve opportunities for the local communities, with a focus on girls and women. With increased knowledge of healthcare, the community will be better equipped to prevent diseases and reduce risk to their health.Through capacity building and skills development, adults will have better access to sustainable incomes. In the long term, the project will phase over to the community and partners, once they feel prepared to continue independently.
