Multiple facets of women's empowerment

By Fiji team | Fiji Project team

We thank you again for your ongoing support for this project. It is much appreciated.
Empowerment of women in the community can happen in many ways. Two examples of how this project supports women are by working with children to support mothers and families, and another is through health education.
Let's start with the children's  Learning Through Play program.  Although the key aim is the development of the children attending the sessions, mothers also benefit from the program.  It builds on the work they do at home to support the growth and development of their children and families.  If children accomplish their developmental milestones they are more likely to thrive once at school.
The Learning Through Play program is a support for women as they can learn new ideas on how they can support the development of their children through a range of play activities. It also provides access to resources that families may not have access to at home.  It is also a meeting point, where mothers can interact with other parents and grandparents providing support and a social outlet. Parenting can feel isolating at times and this program is a way for mothers to support each other share ideas.
Health of women and families is also a high focus for this project.  Education on health topics enables women to be stronger decision makers and more confident advocates for their family's health.
We work in partership with the District Nurse  and identify topics of need.  We work to  educate women through workshops or individual support sessions.  This broadens their knowledge and understanding of particular issues through shared learning.   This year we have run over 110 workshops and/or classes based on health and nutrition with fantastic attendance.
Your donations help us to fund resources to run these types of programmes. We can use the funds to develop resources that can educate women on topics such as child development and other health topics relevant to their communities.

We thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to work on these grasroots programs to support women.
