Women and Health in Fiji

By Michele Comber | Project Manager

The past few years have highlighted the importance of healthcare more than ever. Communities taking an active role in healthcare, and providing support for healthcare workers are both important priorities for communities around the world.

The main goal of this project is to support the functions of District Nurse La. Her responsibilities are essential for both productivity of heathcare services and improving health and wellness.

The project strives to increase the self-efficacy of 14 Community Health Workers (CHWs) to be productive health providers within their communities. The communities span between Dawasamu District and Bureiwai District.

It is well-established that the Community Health Workers are crucial to both optimizing quality of care and in addressing increasing numbers of people accessing health care.

This project aids in human resources management and in supporting Community Health Workers' service delivery. It encourages the District Nurse's role in providing continuous training and learning opportunities for her staff.

In Dawasamu we are lucky to work alongside the community health workers whose role is to support the District Nurse in promoting health and wellbeing in the District of Dawasamu and Bureiwai.

The aim of community capacity-building frameworks is to achieve sustainable change for the benefit of all families and groups living in a community. To achieve this, communities must seek ways to develop their own capacity so that they can continue to work with families to help address community needs.

Your support leads to hold workshops sharing their knowledge and skills on specific topics. Upskilling the community health workers is a great way to share knowledge which then gets cascaded down to the community members in their own village. This model strives for long term impact in community health support.

Thank you for your ongoing support for this project.  Your support provides valuable resources for health and wellness programs in the community.
