Women Skill Development Project Sewing Center

By Aneer Adil | CEO

The Skill Center is one of the new initiatives of SMPD. Since our office is located in the urban area of Mirpurkhas, we have better access to nearby communities. One of our local partners encouraged us to establish a sewing center within our office premises to support women from the surrounding communities.

Currently, 15 women are enrolled in the program, where they are learning stitching and basic tailoring skills. These skills will help them earn a livelihood and support their families.

As Pakistan’s population continues to grow, communities celebrate many cultural and religious occasions throughout the year. In our local communities, people are very supportive and united, and festivals such as Eid and Easter are celebrated with great enthusiasm.

We recently asked these women whether they had received any stitching work for the upcoming festivals. We are pleased to share that many of them have already received orders for stitching clothes. This opportunity is helping them contribute to their household income and celebrate the festivals more happily with their children and families.

We are now hoping to raise additional funds to purchase more sewing machines for new participants who wish to join the program. SMPD is also planning to provide sewing machines to some of the trained women so they can achieve greater economic stability and continue their work independently.

We are grateful for the continued support of our well-wishers and partners who help make these initiatives possible.
