In Rwanda, early pregnancy has increased from 6.1% to 7.3%. Most of these women drop out of school, and they are jobless. They're not able to raise and cover their children and expenses. They go for prostitution and drug abuse as a response. SafeMotos Institute plans to economically empower 200single mothers and poor unemployed women in Rwanda by enabling them to work in a male-dominated industry, motorcycle taxi industry. It's a worthy career, as they earn $10/day as an income to live and save.
In Rwanda, early pregnancy has increased from 6.1% to 7.3%. The unemployed women reached 16.7% according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda. Although the government is working to prevent early pregnancy, single mothers and poor women face different issues like drop out schools, jobless, and incapable to raise and cover children and personal expenses. So, they end up becoming prostitutes and drug abusers as a solution. This project will empower 200 women to be financially stable.
SafeMotos Institute plans to train single mothers and poor unemployed women from scratch how to ride a motorcycle. After they will be equipped with necessary materials so that they can start to earn an income such as motorcycles and helmets. We will partner with different companies so that they can hire our graduates. In addition, they will also be trained in saving and investing, customer care, and other topics which are beneficial to them. They will have a chance to have mentors to guide them.
According to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda in its Demographic and health survey, the average Rwandan household has 4.3 members. This project will reach to 200 single mothers and poor unemployed women which will provide around 860 people a healthy life. Again, this project will change society mindset around women riders that they are weak to ride. Again, we plan to serve over 400,000 customers within 2 years especially female customers who sometimes face violation by male riders.
