Ripples Farms Program is co-designed with village women to give them a 'hand-up' to fight the causes of generational poverty. Ripples Farms gives African woman land, seeds, irrigation, tools & training on sustainable farming methods, to help women become financially independent, able to feed their children, send them to school and pay for medical services. Ripples wants village women to be able to give their children a fighting chance to survive, have a good life and better life choices.
Women in African villages are burdened by poverty and disadvantaged by traditions and cultural norm. Ripples wants to lighten and break the yoke of personal and generational poverty for village women. Gender inequality is a major cause of hunger and poverty: it is estimated that 60 percent of chronically hungry people are women and girls. There is evidence to show that relative to men, women spend more of the income they control in ways that benefit their children's nutrition and education.
Each woman is given 2 acres of land to farm all year round. She's given seeds, irrigation tools, and training on sustainable farming methods, Bookkeeping and Management. She grows multiple crops both food and cash crops. She'll be able to feed her children with nutritional food all year round. She keeps the harvest from one acre of land which she'll sell to earn income throughout the year. She's able to send her children to school and pay for medical services, a better life for her children.
When women's productivity in areas such as agriculture increases, the benefits are amplified across families for generations. Ripples Farms Program provides nutrition for the today, income generation, and financial independence secures health and future of children, provides income, dignity and a role model for the children as well as security for the long term for the entire family and the next generation
