Women Empowerment

Something we’ve always dreamed of for our Women Empowerment project is beginning to happen: the women are not only learning new skills—they are making the space, the crafts, and the opportunities their own.

Today, our center in Villa Ojo de Agua is active three days a week. On Wednesdays, 20 women who recently joined the program are taking their first steps in the workshops. On Thursdays, 15 women who started last year continue developing their skills and creating new pieces.

But Tuesdays are especially meaningful to us. Women who have been part of Hacedoras for several years now come to the center on their own—not for a scheduled class, but simply because they want to be there. They meet, practice, crochet, exchange ideas, and enjoy time together. This is one of the outcomes we value most: seeing local women take ownership of the space and turn it into a place that truly belongs to their community.

And their work is beginning to travel beyond Ojo de Agua! Recently, two people who discovered Hacedoras through Instagram contacted us with a special request: they wanted handmade pieces created by the women as favors for their weddings. Both orders were completed and delivered.

For us, these were much more than two sales. They showed the women that there are people outside their community who discover their work, appreciate its value, and are willing to choose it for some of the most important moments in their lives. That is how a skill begins to become an opportunity.

This is the kind of growth we want to keep nurturing: women who learn, women who stay, women who make the space their own—and women whose talent can reach further and further.
