Lack of sustainable income-generating activities, poor livelihood due to meagre income sources, repressed and opposed equitable rights to natural resources, lack of awareness to claim for the fundamental rights of women, and lack of income-generation skills are some of the major problems faced by the rural women communities of Nepal. Thus, because of all those issues and problems most of the rural women of Nepal are compelled to live below poverty level. Most of them lack the adequate skills to improve their livelihood and have to work as daily wageworkers with the heavy burden of physical works. Thus, we helped to improve their livelihood by giving them an opportunity to participate in skill development activities and find an alternative source of income for themselves.
As such, the vegetable growing skill development training was provided to the rural women communities of Nepal using the barren lands of forests. Such skill development training helped them to understand the certain skills to cultivate the forestlands and grow vegetables that can be consumed by themselves and sell in the local market. The training also helped them to develop their skills in the vegetable farming using the modern farming techniques and tools to increase the productivity of the land. Till now, few of them were able to sell those vegetables in the market and generate some income after the skill development training. The development of skills of farming after the training have also helped them to empower them both socially and economically including the sustainable forest management by using the barren forest lands for the cultivation and vegetable farming.
