Summary

About 70 percent of rural women in the DRC live in poverty due to a long period of war, rape and sexual violence, and residual conflict in the east. The food situation is characterized by the drop of 30 to 40% of food crop production, the decline in food consumption and the increase in the rate of malnutrition. Effect, by this project, it will improve the climatic resilience of the cropping systems used. By rural women, climate risk management skills and identify good practices.

Challenge

Bad seed that does not adapt to climate change. Poverty and dramatic nutritional situation of women. Lack of resources, poor policy and the collapse of seed supply do not help women farmers to produce. Women benefit less from employment than men, lower food consumption.

Solution

To solve the problems identified by the project, it will improve the climatic resilience of farming systems used by rural populations, skills in climate risk management and identify good practices. It will be a question of operation of a supply chain for the production and extension of varieties of maize, cassava and rice resistant to climate change, to adopt farmers in sustainable cultivation techniques and diversified income-generating activities. and climate resilient, update Culture Calend.

Long-Term Impact
