Lebanese youths are fleeing the country, leading to a loss of vital talent and future leaders. The WIP - WORK IN PROGRESS project aims to counteract this trend by investing in young people. By providing three-month training courses and funding the most viable business plans, WIP creates a supportive environment for aspiring entrepreneurs. Since its inception, WIP has successfully launched new businesses and offered professional training, contributing to the nation's long-term recovery.
Lebanon is a country devastated by an unprecedented economic, political and social crisis. Citizens no longer can freely dispose of their money and soaring inflation has contributed to the collapse of the economy. Today, the national poverty rate is over 80%. Lebanese youths are desperate to move abroad. The more who leave, the more Lebanon loses its talent pool and the key future players in the decision-making process.
With this project, we claim and demonstrate how important it is to invest in young people and their ideas for the future of the country. The aim of the project, indeed, is to support the development of new startups in Lebanon. We have therefore launched a competition for young people who have an innovative business idea. Thirty selected aspiring entrepreneurs receive a training courses to draft a business plan for the WIP Advisory Board, which evaluates and funds the most viable proposals.
With this project, we try to create around the young people a safety and support network essential for finding the courage to invest in a country that offers very few prospects. WIP project has been active since 2022 and has already helped dozens of young people. By investing in young people and their desire to build a country where coexistence and peace are, we believe we are contributing to the recovery of a nation that has been on its knees for too long.
