Final Report for Willamette River Confluence

By Julia Amato | Oregon Nature Conservancy Marketing Manager

The Nature Conservancy is excited to be part of a collaborative effort to protect nearly 60,000 acres of floodplain forests throughout the Willamette Valley. This project at the Willamette Confluence is a part of this effort. During the course of this project, restoration crews have moved more than 72,000 tons of sand and gravel to reconnect one mile of side channels to the Willamette River. This is the first time in nearly 100 years the Willamette River is reconnected to its floodplain habitat. These connections provide critical habitat for salmon, improve drinking water and protect communities during extreme weather events. Thank you to all who have supported this project to make this work possible!
