Dear Supporters,
Since we started our campaign in March, the whole world turned upside down. Unfortunately, because of the travel regulations, we were not yet able to travel to local villages in Indonesia, but I want to give you some quick updates about what we have achieved so far.
When COVID-19 hit Indonesia, our in-country team of local researchers were in the field on Seram Island and had to stay there for almost two months during the lockdown. They did not waste their time and conducted a parrot census on the island, which is the most up-to-date and detailed one today. We are now writing up this report in English.
Others of us, who were not so lucky to stuck in the field, had to adapt to work in home office. We took advantage of this time and analysed the parrot trade data in Indonesia from the past two decades. Using criminological models, we managed to better understand the factors behind the trade, highlighted some trends and species/places that need urgent conservation attention. This study is now under a peer-review process and once published we will share it with you.
Indonesia ordered people to #stayhome, and as part of this campaign we released the Indonesian Bahasa version of our documentary online and we received lots of views and great feedbacks! We still plan to go and screen in remote villages without internet connection, so we keep our campaign open and try to raise the necessary funds before we are able to travel again. If you are interested in our movie, it is now on the program of the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival (along with our other documentaries) screening online during this month (see links below).
I wanted to thank you again for your generous support of conservation even during this extremely challenging time! Please keep safe and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
