The Warehouse is OPEN! It's Backpack Season

Preparing backpacks is fun!
Our Back to School Warehouse is open and already backpacks are coming in! Over 600 volunteers of all ages will sort and prepare the backpacks for distribution to over 190 schools and agencies. The more backpacks that come to our warehouse means the more low-income students we are able to help in the community. Our goal this drive is 27,000 backpacks; that's 27,000 local students entering the classroom ready to succeed and take ownership in their learning.
It seems like an ambitious goal, but according to 2012 statistics, there are more than 353,000 students in the Bay Area who qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program. It's really just a drop in the bucket. Click here to help equip more low-income students with the tools needed to help break the cycle of poverty. Your donation is going towards making our goal a reality.

S.T.E.M. for the Future
By Jennifer Cullenbine | CEO and Founder

Excited to be prepared!
Thank you for your early investment in our children’s future. With 80% of new jobs requiring proficient skills in science, technology, engineering, and math it has become increasingly important that we reduce the barriers to excel in school. Giving these students the tools they need to do their homework and participate in the classroom gives them the opportunity to succeed and help break the cycle of poverty.
Currently, our staff is collecting requests from schools in need for the coming school year. In August we will distribute the backpacks that we will receive at our warehouse.
As the campaign continues, we wanted to share the impact your donation will have on the students. An elementary school teacher writes, “The students aren’t preoccupied with what they need. They come in with more confidence. The backpacks and school supplies gives them ownership over their learning and that’s a powerful thing.” Thanks for helping provide the tools for our children to thrive in school and pursue their dreams.

A new backpack brings big smiles to a little girl
What a great way to jumpstart our 2014 Back to School Drive! Thank you for all of your continued support!
With 80% of jobs created in the next decade requiring STEM skills, these backpacks and supplies which you helped provide can help break the cycle of poverty for children by giving them the tools they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.
As of today, your donations will help 49 students get ahead of the curve and come into the classroom prepared to learn. According to Geoff Vu from the Roots Academy in Oakland, donations like these “relieve a tremendous burden that no child or family should have to carry”. On behalf of the children we help, thank you!
Our Back to School warehouse opens in the beginning of August. There the backpacks will be stuffed, sorted according to school, and picked up for distribution to the students before the first day of classes for the 2014 school year.
