The summer heat in northern Afghanistan is intense. The daily high temperature can be over 100°F (40°C). The extreme temperatures make the walk to collect water even more challenging. Yet, the need for water for hydration and hygiene increases with the rise in temperature.
Families need access to a clean water source near their homes so the walk to collect water is shorter and so they can collect enough water at this crucial time of year.
This summer, we are in the process of providing three communities with wells within their neighborhoods. This means that hundreds of Afghan families will have relief from the stress of water collection in this vital time.
