Challenge

Girls are vastly underrepresented in all places of influence and authority in the U.S. and around the world. As a result, they aren't involved in the decisions that impact their lives, and instead are subjected to discrimination, stigmatization and abuse. They simply do not have the collective power, freedom or representation to challenge the status quo and break through the stereotypes that continue to hold them back. In order to achieve gender equality, we need to help girls get equal.

Solution

We know girls' potential because we've worked alongside them for decades. That's why our We Are the Girls campaign is bringing girls together to create the change they need in their lives. This movement is led by girls, but it's for everyone - everyone is affected by gender inequality, and everyone must play a role in ending it. Through the We Are the Girls campaign, Plan USA is committed to raising $200 million by 2024 to impact 10 million lives around the world.

Long-Term Impact

By mobilizing girls, their parents, supporters and allies, we can unleash the power of "we": the unstoppable force that can be achieved when girls engage and support each other. As such, our We Are the Girls campaign seeks to ultimately influence and change not only the way the world sees girls, but the way girls see themselves - for themselves, and for everyone. Because when girls lead the way, they can change the world.
