Our successes are your successes because of your support and caring heart. In this report, we want to highlight 4 of those stories! Read further for updates on Puff, Otter, Missy, and Butterbean.
Puff
Puff is our small crested duck who has severe scoliosis and neurological dysfunction due to the gene in crested ducks that causes deformity in their skulls and fat to protrude from an opening in it. Puff will still occasionally lose his balance and topple over but most of the time he walks very well enjoys life with his brother who is also disabled from an bumblefoot infection. Puff is in permanent sanctuary with us and we are so happy with his progress!
Otter
Who remembers our sweet Otter? He was found wandering in a Jack in the Box drive through and Animal Control contacted us for help. Otter had a ruptured eye globe and was also mostly blind in his other eye. His eye removal surgery was successful and he was adopted by one of our foster volunteers. Otter is loved so much and his Dad even taught him how to perch on his shoulder. He has become a very spoiled and content house duck!
Missy
Hissy Pissy Missy is what our director likes to call her! Last October, Missy came very close to dying of Sepsis. With a strong will to live, Missy survived and she is thriving! Missy didn't walk for months so it was a joyful celebration when she began walking in January of this year. In late March, Missy went back to live with her foster mom and her two best goose friends, Oscar & Sarah. MIssy is back to bossing everyone around! We miss her at the rescue but know she is happier in her foster home.
Butterbean
Our sweet Butterbean is currently at Medical Center For Birds now for another procedure to clean out his infected joint. Butterbean has had a long journey of complicated issues from having a testicular tumor, an enlarged spleen, and a small bumblefoot infection that turned into septic arthritis almost overnight. Butterbean has a fantastic quality of life as he enjoys swimming, walking with support in his wheelchair, and enjoying duck life with his foster family including foster brother, Otter!
