At Pacific Waterfowl Rescue we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome domestic ducks & geese. Domestic waterfowl are often the forgotten or unimportant birds of the animal kingdom. They are often dumped at public lakes and parks where they suffer from malnutrition, illness, or injury from predators. Avian veterinary care to treat sickness and injury is expensive and is our highest operating expense. These birds need Waterfowl Warriors willing to donate to save their lives!
Our largest challenge is raising enough funds for veterinary care. One of our geese was diagnosed with a ventriculus obstruction that almost took her life. Thankfully, she recovered fully. The total cost including veterinary hospitalization, medications, and aftercare was close to $2750. We have struggled to raise the full amount of veterinary funds needed and have had to delay veterinary treatment for other birds that need it. One of those delays cost a bird a permanent walking disability.
Our current budget for veterinary care is $415 a month. As of 7/31/17, we have spent $6377 for veterinary care making us 55% over budget. By raising $12,000, it will cover our veterinary expenses nicely for 2018. It will allow us to seek treatment early and hopefully prevent any permanent health problems or disabilities.
The long-term impact is a high quality of life for domestic ducks and geese thus improving their chance for adoption to approved life-long, loving homes.
