Drop of Hope's Water Fund has a goal to create an interfaith platform for policy influencing, awareness creation, and resource mobilization for providing water, as we believe everyone can act to make safe and accessible water available to those who need it most." said a spokesperson for Drop of Hope. "Focusing on faith leaders and faith communities allows us to draw upon the networks and power that comes from different faith beliefs and practices to bring about positive change.
Water scarcity affects more than 450 million children who live without water access across the globe - impacting their health, development and long-term wellbeing. Every year children miss 443 million days of school because of waterborne illness. Unsafe water is responsible for several diseases, the most common is diarrhea, which kills nearly 1,000 children a day. Water is definitely a key component for health; but it also significantly impacts a child's educational experience.
Drop of Hope as a project will bring together water actors, faith leaders, funders, supporters and stakeholders to raise awareness, mobilize resources and build synergy to provide water to vulnerable communities.
Water is important to all faiths and holds very sacred connections to faith beliefs and practices. In some countries, it unites and heals rifts. In others, the need and lack of access to water have been the cause of conflicts, deaths, and health challenges. Lack of access to water is a major contributing factor to high poverty rates, malnutrition, and school dropouts among many other challenges. Drop of Hope has a goal to create an interfaith platform for policy influencing and water access.
